Programs for Youth
Unique, specialized care is provided to the children we serve through the Children’s Services Program, “FootSteps.” Caring adults, healthy foods, socially and educationally stimulating activities are some of the basic ingredients for a happy, well-adjusted child and are a key factor in shaping the services we provide for the more than 100 youth and children we serve each year.
Overall, what we hope to achieve with the children is similar to the basic outcomes we have established for the adults who participate in our Life Long Learning educational program. We work to help children acquire the same essential building blocks. Our hope is that this will ultimately lead to their ability to succeed in life. Activities are geared to help them achieve positive mental health, physical health, positive social and daily living skills, as well as a thirst for knowledge and education as a stepping stone to future employment. Almost as importantly, we work to strengthen their personal sense of responsibility. With a combined focus on the needs of children, especially during their most formative years as well as helping adults overcome the issues that led to their homelessness, our goal is to ultimately break the cycle of dependency and end homelessness as we know it.
Services for Children and Youth Include:
- Comprehensive assessment to determine cognitive, intellectual, physical and mental progress
- Access to specialized services based on individual needs
- Educational, artistic and cultural enrichment activities
- Access to a computer lab and homework help
- Positive parenting classes
- Connection to day care along with childcare subsidies

Bright Space
The Bright Space play area was created with funding from Rosie's For All Kids Foundation and
http://www.brighthorizons.com/about/foundation.aspx Equipped with two Young Explorer computer systems, a reading area, tumbling equipment, dress-up and creative play area as well as many activities designed to enhance young motor skills, this whimsical room is a wonderful resource that provides a rich environment for interactive play between parents and children. The space is also used by volunteers who provide enrichment activities for the children as well as childcare while parents attend classes in our Life Long Learning Program.
Opportunities for Volunteers
Volunteers help by tutoring children, providing child care while parents attend classes, and organizing activities for the children such as special reading or art nights, field trips, picnics and recreational activities.
